Romanian Environmental News
No. 001 Published 30th January 2008
Welcome to REN, an email newsletter which attempts to reach everyone in Romania concerned with improving the environmental record of the country; and many people outside Romania who have an interest in sustainable, ethical development in Romania. REN aims to cover as wide a range of interests as possible which can be described as environmental, sustainable, ethical.
REN welcomes contributions from all in any of our four languages: English, Romanian, Hungarian and German. Articles should not be too long. Links can be given to websites for those who want to read more.
REN is a campaigning newsletter. We believe that both the planet and capitalism are at crisis point. To start moving towards a less damaging and more equitable society we need to put the welfare of the planet and the best interests of all before profit and selfish gain.
As one of the least developed countries in the EU with one of the lowest emissions of CO2 per capita, Romania has a long way to go to reach standard of living one finds in Germany or Sweden. However, because of the low impact lifestyles of the large majority of the Romanian population, environmental choices for Romania make more sense, will cause less disruption, and will leave the Romanian countryside and cities much healthier and better places to live than they will be if full blown capitalist development is allowed to continue.
REN campaigns for a sustainable, ethical, equitable future for Romania.
REN is published quarterly. Next publishing date April 30th 2008
